Candy Out; Money In

100_0746We look for marketing or promotional tactics we think eye-catching and one we saw last week uses candy to get the target audience’s attention and repeat behavior to get results.

A local church youth group is raising funds for a church related activity out-of-town that has fees attached. At the church service last Sunday, they announced the fundraiser and asked for the congregation’s support. Here’s how it works.

As the congregation exits the church after each of the weekend services, a youth  hands a member a container of mini-M&Ms. The request is that when they return on the following Sunday, the candy is gone, replaced by a monetary contribution to help fund the trip.

Since there is a good chance that many if not most of the congregation will return, it seems to be a tactic with a good chance for success. Clever!
