In Memoriam: Veterans Day 2011

On this November 11 in honor of all veterans but especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, I want to honor a hero I never met and the team with whom he flew.

Paul L. O’Brien was one of my mother’s brothers. During WWII he was a radio operator on a B-17 in the 91st Bomber Wing of the 323rd Squadron. The plane was heading for Meaulte, France apparently to bomb an airplane factory (Aero Frame Works) and went down over France on May 13, 1943. He is buried in Normandy.
