If you are above a certain age, you may have missed the hubbub surrounding a young lady named Rebecca Black. She has a music video on YouTube that has, as they say, “gone viral.” As of March 29, 2011, the view count was over 62 million and the video had over 1 million comments. It is possible for anyone with web access to get themselves noticed. And sometimes at low-cost or no cost. Here is an example of the possibilities, including forming a virtual team.
We received a call from a consultant with a client who is starting a business and needs to write a marketing plan, web content, collateral materials, etc. But, says the consultant, her client has very poor writing skills! And very little money.
Leave the writing to the side for the moment. It is possible to get web exposure for you and your start-up using any combination of the following: a free email account, a free service to create a web site, a free service to create a blog, free examples of marketing plans, free animation software, free movie makers, etc. Granted some of these programs have limitations and advanced versions come with a fee. But there is no reason why someone can’t move forward — even improve their writing skills. Which takes us to teams.
Can’t pay a consultant? Invite five friends, relatives, or a mix of both over for coffee. Tell them your plan. Ask them to be your advisory team. Set up a (free) conference call each week and use this advisory team to be your mentoring group. If your trust them, they should feel honored that you asked them. If you can’t pay them, them have a Meet and Greet once a month and split a pizza. And always thank them.
It is a virtual world. Make it work for you. Of course, if you need some assistance moving your face-to-face or virtual team forward, you can visit us here. Some of our stuff is free!
Q: What’s you favorite YouTube video?
