A recent article in the Wall Street Journal announced that Seth Godin and Amazon are launching a new publishing model. As the article states, while Godin is releasing his new book without a publisher, “he’s not exactly going it alone.”
For those of us interested in if not passionate about virtual teams, this is good news because this arrangement is a virtual team. We also note that Godin’s new book will be available in both electronic and hard cover versions. In our opinion, this move is less about a crisis for traditional publishers and more about how a personage like Mr. Godin has leveraged a significant web presence via his blog and previous books to be able sell direct to loyal followers, his “tribe” to borrow one of his cues.
